Kriol, The Lingua Franca of Belize

La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge
Reading Time: < 1 min

Did you know that Belizean Creole or as it is locally known: “Kriol” is the lingua franca of Belize? Yes, English is the official language of the country and it’s taught in schools but everyone grows up speaking Kriol (broken english) and it’s considered a big part of our identity.

When the good folks of ProjectExplorer.org visited Belize they were intrigued by the local dialect and asked me to participate in an informational video translating basic sentences into English.

In this video titled Kriol for Travellers, we talk about golf carts, jaguars, sharks, mosquitos, and of course, if there is Internet in the jungle. Cheers and I hope you enjoy the video.

Comment below and let me know what you think of my performance… 😀
