Getting to Belize by Air

Direct Flights to Belize from  USA, Canada, Latin America & Mexico

Flying is the most popular way to get to Belize, with all international flights landing at the Phillip Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City. Locally known as PGIA, it’s Belize’s only international airport.

U.S. to Belize flights

Flights to Belize from the U.S. are not cheap. The main carriers are United, Delta, and American Airlines, and the main cities they depart from are New York, Miami, Houston, and Atlanta. Also sometimes from Los Angeles and Chicago.

Canada to Belize flights

If you’re coming from Canada, West Jet and Air Canada have direct flights to Belize on a weekly basis during the fall and winter time (Belize’s high tourism season), which is from November to April. Otherwise, you’ll have to fly to Belize through a flight connection in the U.S.

Central America direct flights to Belize

If you’re traveling from Europe, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, flight connections are necessary. Passengers from Central America and South America can fly using Avianca with a usual stop in El Salvador.

Getting to Belize by land

With Belize bordering Mexico to the north and Guatemala to the west, one of the most popular ways to enter Belize is through its land borders. In fact, land transportation is the most inexpensive way to arrive in Belize.

Mexico buses to Belize

Taking the bus from Mexico to Belize is pretty common. The ADO company has overnight buses from Cancun or Playa del Carmen to Belize City.

Guatemala buses to Belize

To get to Belize from Guatemala via bus, one must take the Maya De Oro bus line, which departs from Guatemala City to Melchor de Menchos, a small town that sits across Belize’s western border. If you are in Flores, Peten, you can catch collectivos which are small private vans that everyone uses.

Getting to Belize by sea

Belize receives over a million cruise visitors per year. Often, these visitors just stop off in the country for 5 to 6 hours before continuing on their Caribbean cruise.

Some of the primary cruise lines that have stops in Belize include Celebrity Cruises, Carnival Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, and Norwegian Cruise Line.
