Brrr! Winter is here! It’s time for a well-deserved vacation and nothing is better than sun, sand, and sea.

I honestly can’t pinpoint exactly what it is about beach destinations that make for perfect travel. I can imagine that women love it because they can work on the perfect tan as their friends back home get pale in the cold weather. And men enjoy popular water sports such as scuba diving, kayaking, and fishing.

Wait, I’m just kidding, often it’s the other way around – women enjoy being active sea adventurers and men bask under the sun enjoying rum drinks. Beach life is the best.

So if you’re considering Belize for a warm-weather getaway – you’ve come to the right spot. Having the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere, gorgeous climate, charming cultures and world-class resorts, Belize is well worth your consideration.

Taking advantage of my inside knowledge, I’ve come up with three of Belize’s best beach hotspots that will ensure that you have a great time when in Belize. I challenge you to take a break from the cold and journey to paradise this winter.

Ambergris Caye

The Phoenix Resort in Ambergris Caye, Belize
The Phoenix Resort

The Phoenix Resort is one of the best hotels in Ambergris Caye. With deluxe condo style accommodations, you are sure to feel at home. It is ideally located smack downtown amidst the vibrant town of San Pedro which makes it perfect to witness Belizean lifestyle. Onsite amenities include a top-notch restaurant, spa, pool and a concierge who can book all your adventure activities such as diving the Great Blue Hole or reef fishing. And for the extra adventurous, if you desire to travel back in time to unveil the mysteries of the ancient Maya underworld; a day trip to Belize’s ATM cave can also be arranged.

Hopkins

Hamanasi dive resort room

One of the many things that Hamanasi does well is cater to adventure enthusiasts, specifically those who love being underwater. Aside from being considered Belize’s best diving resort, their location in Hopkins allows guests to be introduced to the fascinating Garifuna culture that is unique to Belize and Southern Guatemala. The beachside village of Hopkins is teeming with friendly Garifunas who welcome visitors to learn about their culture. After your day tours and adventures, it’s recommended that you wander around town to take in the colorful Garifuna language, sample their exquisite food and rock to the sounds of their beating drums.

Placencia

The Beach in Placencia
Chabil Mar Beachfront

Placencia boasts some of the best beach resorts in Belize and Chabil Mar Villas is definitely one of them. Offering tastefully decorated villas, this resort is beautifully landscaped and has breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. This spot is perfect for couples as it provides a quaint and romantic atmosphere. If you’re looking for lively surroundings, Placencia village is in walking distance and offers superb restaurants and a fun nightlife. If you visit during March to June you can ask to go swimming with Whale Sharks.

There you have it. My top picks for Belize beach escapes. Try any of the three, or try them all, and I am certain you won’t be disappointed.

It all looks so gorgeous! Dying to go. A winter escape would be perfect right about now. Not that I need another excuse to escape…but the freezing rain outside right now makes sitting on a lounge chair with the sunset at San Pedro look pretty amazing.
