The Split is a narrow channel that divides the island of Caye Caulker into two. It is believed that the waterway is the result of the infamous Hurricane Hattie that hit Belize in 1961, causing major devastation across the country.
The Split’s deep, clean waters makes it one of Caye Caulker’s best swimming spots and a great place for water sports such as snorkeling, parasailing, and fishing. It’s also home to the Lazy Lizard Bar, one of Belize’s most famous beach bars, which is known for its specialty “green” drink and for having nice areas to relax while you get a suntan.
