On Saturday, November 22, the Belize Tourism Board hosted the 2025 National Tourism Awards Gala in Belize City. The event has become an important yearly celebration that highlights the individuals, businesses, and organizations that continue to raise the standard of tourism in Belize.
I enjoy putting this post together each year because it provides an easy way to stay informed about the country’s best hotels, tour companies, guides, and cultural experiences. It also recognizes the many Belizeans whose work shapes the reputation of Belize as a warm, welcoming, and world-class destination.
Congratulations to the 2025 winners, and recognition to all the tourism stakeholders who help move the industry forward.
Hotel of the Year – Copal Tree Lodge
Copal Tree Lodge in Punta Gorda, Toledo won the 2025 hotel of the year award. This recognition highlights a hotel that excels in ambiance, service, amenities, sustainability, and guest satisfaction. It must stand as an example for hospitality in Belize and reflect the best of what the country offers.
Small Accommodation of the Year – Caribbean Beach Cabanas
Caribbean Beach Cabanas in Placencia won the small accommodation award 2025. This honour is given to a boutique property that offers charm, personalized service, and a sense of place that reflects Belize’s unique identity. Winners demonstrate character, comfort, and attention to detail.
Tour Operator of the Year – Barefoot Services
Barefoot Services in Placencia received tour operator of the year 2025. This honour recognizes a company that offers well-organized excursions, excellent customer service, and top safety standards. The company must deliver consistent quality and contribute to Belize’s reputation as an accessible and adventure-filled destination.
Restaurant of the Year – Slate & Sap
Slate & Sap Restaurant at Hidden Valley Wilderness Lodge in Mountain Pine Ridge won restaurant of the year 2025. This award recognizes an establishment that stands out for its exceptional food, creative menu, and great service. It highlights restaurants that provide a memorable dining experience and showcase the best of Belizean and international cuisine.
Frontline Person of the Year – Eric Mendez
Eric Mendez of Alaia Belize in San Pedro received the 2025 frontline award for his commitment to exceptional service and guest care. This honour recognizes individuals who work directly with visitors and consistently go above and beyond to create a positive experience. It is often awarded to bartenders, servers, housekeeping staff, and front desk personnel who show professionalism, patience, and genuine hospitality.
Tour Guide of the Year – Elvin Torres
Elvin Torres of Upclose Belize Tours in Belize City won tour guide of the year 2025. This award is given to a guide who provides strong leadership, deep knowledge of Belize’s natural and cultural heritage, and a memorable experience for every guest. Recipients must demonstrate skill, safety, and a real passion for sharing Belize with the world.
Green Champion of the Year – Copal Tree Lodge
Copal Tree Lodge also earned the green champion award for 2025. This honour goes to a business that demonstrates a clear commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and responsible tourism. It recognizes properties that integrate conservation into their operations while offering a high-quality guest experience.
Health & Wellness Provider of the Year – Naia Spa
Naia Spa of Naia Resort & Spa in Placencia received the health and wellness award 2025. This recognition highlights a business that promotes relaxation, balance, and wellbeing through thoughtful treatments and attentive service. The winner must offer an experience that supports both physical and mental rejuvenation.
Cultural Experience of the Year – Palmento Grove Eco Cultural & Fishing Institute
Palmento Grove in Hopkins Village received the 2025 cultural experience award. This recognition highlights a tourism experience that preserves and shares Belizean culture in a meaningful way. It goes to organizations that promote authentic traditions, community engagement, and hands-on learning.
Tourism Site of the Year – Elijio Panti National Park
Elijio Panti National Park in San Antonio Village was awarded the tourism site of the year 2025. This honour recognizes a site that attracts visitors for its natural beauty, cultural value, or historical significance. The winner must be well managed and offer an experience that helps visitors appreciate Belize’s heritage and environment.
Lifetime Achievement Award – Francis Ford Coppola
Francis Ford Coppola, tourism pioneer and founder of Blanceneux Lodge in Mountain Pine Ridge and Turtle Inn in Placencia, received the lifetime achievement award for 2025. This honour is given to an individual who has made a long-term impact on Belize’s tourism sector. Recipients often show vision, leadership, and a deep commitment to the development of the industry over many years.
Minister’s Award – Stanley Longsworth Sr.
Stanley Longsworth Sr., founder of Caribbean Shipping Agencies (Belize City port agent for cruise lines), was selected for the 2025 Minister’s award. This award is given to an individual chosen by the Minister of Tourism for their sustained contribution to community development, industry growth, and national service.
