Whether it’s beach resorts or jungle lodges, Belize is a vacation destination that primarily has boutique hotels. In total, the country has around 900 hotels with the average hotel having 10 rooms. This is a stark difference from neighbouring countries such as Mexico which has hundreds of hotel chains.

I always encourage visitors to Belize to seek out boutique resorts (e.g. treehouses) since they offer a more unique and authentic experience, however, I’m aware that some people prefer the reward benefits or security of staying at world-recognized hotel brands.

With this in mind, below are the best international hotel chains in Belize.

1. Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club

Hilton Belize, Mahogany Bay Resort in Ambergris Caye

Located in South Ambergris Caye, Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club is a part of the Curio Collection by Hilton Hotels & Resorts. Two miles (3.5 km) south of downtown San Pedro, the resort is set up as an exclusive village with 205 charming cottages and villas that offer seclusion to guests.

The 4-star Mahogany Bay Resort is the first international hotel chain in Belize and since its inception, it has won the hearts of many. Guests rave about the chic restaurant, private beach, friendly staff, and gorgeously decorated accommodations that offer a modern take on Belize’s British colonial past.

2. Alaia Belize

Alaia Belize by Marriott International

Located in South Ambergris Caye, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of downtown San Pedro, Alaia Belize – Autograph Collection is the first Marriott International property in Belize. Hotel accommodations include 155 luxury beachfront rooms, suites and villas, ranging from studios to three bedrooms.

As one of the most luxurious 5-star resorts in Belize, the hotel has a boutique, wine club, full-service spa, three restaurants, four bars, and three pools, including Belize’s first-ever suspended rooftop pool. Perhaps describable as South Beach Miami meets Belize, it is beyond fancy.

3. Costa Blu Beach Resort

Costa Blu Beach Resort, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts

Seven miles (11.5 km) from downtown San Pedro, in North Ambergris Caye, lies the 3.5-star Costa Blu Beach Resort, a part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. It is the only international hotel chain in Belize that is adults-only exclusive, and with 38 sea-view suites, it is the largest in the country.

Although it’s an international hotel chain, according to Wyndham, Trademark Collection hotels aim to be distinctive, taking on the character of the place in which they’re built. At Costa Blu, international food and architecture are fused with influences of the Caribbean and Belize.

4. Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel

Located at 3½ Miles on the Northern Highway, the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel is found in a quiet area of North Belize City. Affiliated with Best Western Hotels and Resorts, the hotel has 75 rooms and offers a full-service spa, 24-hour gym, pool, and restaurant. It also has amenities for business travelers.

The 3-star hotel is situated in between Belize’s only international airport — the Philip Goldson International Airport in Ladyville — and the hustle and bustle of downtown Belize City. As a result, it serves as a safe, modern, and comfortable base for exploring Belize City and the nearby area.

5. Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina

Located in Belize City proper, the 4-star Radisson Fort George Hotel is near the iconic Baron Bliss Lighthouse and just minutes from the Museum of Belize and the 17th-century Battlefield Park. Branding the name of perhaps the most well-known hotel brand, it is the most popular hotel in Belize City.

The hotel has over 100 rooms and suites, a full-service marina, 3 restaurants, a bar, a cafe/bakery, and several amenities. Many business travelers, along with tourists in transition to the Cayes or mainland Belize often frequent the hotel, and the cafe/bakery is a favourite by Belize City locals.
