The Dry Season

Most tourists visit Belize in March, December and January

The dry season is considered Belize’s “winter” minus the snow and freezing cold. It runs from December to April. During the months of December, January, and February, the temperature in Belize drops a bit leading to cool windy days with lots of sunshine.

And starting March to April, there are hotter days with almost no clouds. The good weather permits for the scheduling of lots of fun activities including numerous aquatic sports and jungle adventures. After all, Belize is indeed an active destination.

This season is also Belize’s high tourism season, certain towns and archaeological sites can be a bit crowded with tourists. Although, do remember that Belize is still relatively unknown and doesn’t really attract a lot of tourists as compared to other countries. Approximately 500,000 overnight tourists visit Belize every year.

The Rainy Season/ Hurricane Season

Rainy day in Belize

The rainy season runs equivalent to Belize’s low tourist season (May to November). Being in Belize during this time can mean that your sunny days may see occasional rainfall. The good news is that unless there is a tropical storm or much worst–a hurricane, rain showers are brief, usually only lasting an hour or two in the afternoon or evening.

Belize’s hurricane season typically runs from June to November, with September and October being the most active months. The country is not often hit directly by hurricanes but it occasionally experiences tropical storms, which may bring heavy rains and strong winds. Higher ground, such as the Cayo District, is a great place to be to weather tropical storms or even hurricanes.

For regular days when it rains a lot, a clear negative is that certain tours such as snorkeling and caving can get cancelled for a couple of days until the conditions ease down and it’s once again safe. Although Belize’s rainy season has several issues to consider, many people think it’s a fair trade since there are still plenty of things to do and you also get to save money and avoid crowds.
