Belize tourism will recover sooner than expected. Here’s why.

Whether you consider it good or bad, Belize tourism will recover sooner than expected. I know I’m being bullish in saying this but there’s enough evidence to piece this prediction together.

First let’s start by looking at who visits Belize.

Belize Overnight Visitors

most Belize overnight tourists are Americans

The majority of overnight tourists to Belize are from the U.S., primarily from Texas and California, followed by Florida, Colorado and New York. In 2019, representing 65% of Belize’s overnight tourists, that number was 326,288 Americans.

This is good news for Belize since it’s predicted that potentially 70% of U.S. adults will be vaccinated before the end of the summer and research suggests that most are ready to travel again. In other words, the “bread and butta” of Belize’s tourism industry will be primed and ready.

But what makes Belize a great post-pandemic travel destination for Americans?

Cliche Belize taglines, surprisingly

I can list all the amazing places and unique attractions that draw people to Belize, but interestingly, I believe it’s actually the cliche Belize destination marketing taglines that will play an integral part in the quicker-then-expected tourism rebound for Belize.

The three main factors that make Belize a great post-pandemic travel destination are:

1. Belize is just a short flight from most major U.S. cities.

Airlines flying to Belize right now

Being in a cramped position for a long period of time was already unpopular prior to the pandemic so I imagine people will probably put off long-haul flights for a bit. Fortunately, flights from the U.S. to Belize are short. Direct flights from Houston, Texas to Belize City’s International Airport are just 2.5 hours, 2 hours from Miami, Florida, and 5 hours from Los Angeles, California.

2. Belize is Mother Nature’s best kept secret. lol

After being cooped up for over a year, people want new experiences, especially being able to roam free in nature. Fortunately, Belize has many natural attractions and activities that can satisfy that outdoor itch. And most importantly, Belize has the reputation for being a sparsely populated country that doesn’t receive a lot of visitors (hence the Mother Nature’s best kept secret tagline).

3. Belize is an English-speaking country.

Health and safety is crucial at the moment and Americans that can only speak English will want to avoid potential language barriers. In Belize, COVID-19 guidelines and instructions are in English and can be translated to Spanish by most Belizeans, if necessary.

There you have it. The brief list above showcases why I’m optimistic about tourists returning to Belize soon.

Visiting Belize in August to see brother, is it possible to hire a guide for a day for one person and what would be the cost?
