The 5 best adults-only Belize resorts

1. Coco Plum Island Resort

Overwater Villa at Coco Plum Adults-Only Island Resort

Located on a private island off the coast of Dangriga in Southern Belize, Coco Plum Island Resort is perhaps the most popular adult-only all inclusive resort in Belize. For over 20 years, the resort has been offering honeymooners, couples, and friends the perfect tropical island escape.

The resort consists of a restaurant, bar, and a few beachfront cabanas within the 16 acre island, which make visitors feel as if they’re secluded on a remote Caribbean island. Aside from day-trip tours to the mainland, fun things to do include water sports such as fishing, diving, and snorkeling, as well as ‘soft’ adventures such as sailing, kayaking, and stand up paddle boarding.

2. Matachica Resort & Spa

Adult Only Beach Resort in San Pedro Belize

Matachica Resort and Spa bills itself as a truly authentic and restorative luxury island getaway for adults. Set on a pristinely maintained beach, romanticism is top of mind there, with vibrantly colored individual bungalows that are equipped with canopied beds, two-person hammocks, and semi-outdoor bathrooms.

Located 5 miles north of San Pedro town on Ambergris Caye, Matachica is the perfect couples resort for those that desire a splendid ambiance retreat after a full day of adventures around the island. For flexibility, it’s recommended that you rent a golf cart to easily move around while you’re there. Otherwise, you can catch Matachica’s 20-min boat ferry to San Pedro’s lively downtown.

3. Caribbean Beach Cabanas

Caribbean Beach Cabanas - a PUR Adults Only Resort in Placencia, Belize

Located in the charming seaside village of Placencia in Southern Belize, Caribbean Beach Cabanas is a small rustic-luxury beachfront resort consisting of 7 casitas and villas on a ½ acre beachfront property. It’s the sole adults-only resort in Placencia and similar to its sister property, PUR Boutique Cabanas on Ambergris Caye, it only caters to guests that are 18 and over.

Since the resort is straddled by the Caribbean Sea and the famous Placencia Sidewalk, it’s perfect for travelers that want a tranquil private beach setting while only being steps away from the lively bars, restaurants, and shops of downtown Placencia.

4. PUR Boutique Cabanas

Bungalows at PUR Boutique Cabanas in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

Located just 1 mile north of downtown San Pedro, PUR Boutique Cabanas is a small beach resort consisting of six bungalows, a small pool, a swim-up bar, and a restaurant. It’s one of the newest adults-only hotels in Ambergris Caye, quickly becoming a favourite among younger couples and honeymooners that are looking for an intimate setting near San Pedro’s lively downtown.

Compared to other boutique hotels on Ambergris Caye, PUR Boutique Cabana is “compact”–however, each individual bungalow is equipped with the basics such as a flat screen TV, WiFi, A/C, and a private veranda with hammocks. Consider staying elsewhere if you prefer seclusion and more space.

5. Costa Blu Beach Resort

Costa Blu Beach Resort, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts

Located 7 miles north of San Pedro, Costa Blu Beach Resort is perhaps the largest and most secluded adults-only getaway in Ambergris Caye. With 38 sea view suites, each equipped with modern amenities and a private balcony, the resort is ideal for anyone that wants a quiet location with an expansive beachfront.

The resort is a part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. Although it’s a hotel chain, according to Wyndham, Trademark Collection hotels aim to be distinctive, taking on the character of the place in which they’re built. At Costa Blu, international food and architecture are fused with influences of the Caribbean and Belize.

Bonus: St. George’s Caye Resort

Overwater Cabins at St. George's Caye Resort in Belize

St. George’s Caye Resort is almost adults only, so I’ve included them here as a bonus. Guests of the resort must be 15+, with the exception of scuba divers that are 13+ and come with family. The resort has several oceanview and overwater bungalows and it offers a semi-secluded island experience. It predominantly hosts people that want to dive and snorkel or individuals that just want to relax on a small island that doesn’t have crowds.

Interestingly, the resort is located on St. George’s Caye, a historic Belizean island that is notable for being the location of where the final Spanish invasion of Belize was warded off on September 10th, 1798. It’s the reason why St. George’s Caye Day is celebrated every September.

What does adult only resort mean in Belize?

In most cases, “adult only” in Belize means that the resort or hotel does not allow children. The minimum age permitted to stay at the resort differs from place to place but it’s usually 16 or 18 years old.

Where are the best adults-only resorts located in Belize?

In Belize, adults-only resorts are a more recent phenomenon, which may explain why there aren’t that many countrywide and why most are located in Ambergris Caye, Belize’s most visited destination.
